Unity Layout — Optimized for Flow

Default Unity Layout
Default Unity Layout

So for those using Unity for the first time and looking to optimize their workflow you’re in luck! The industry has standards and they have a suggestion for you.

Thankfully Unity makes it quite easy to get to the “professional layout” and save it for yourself. First thing to do is change from default layout to tall.

Once this is set the next step is just to help with your visual workflow but it’s recommended you change your project window to use one column instead of two it’s cleaner in my opinion.

Once you have that set you can then pull the game window into another section by dragging and arranging it. Most commonly down below your workspace. Also set your game windows aspect ratio to the common ratio of what you are creating for in this case I use 16:9 but that can change if you are developing for mobile. We do this so you can see in the exact window size you want your program to be while working on the project.

Finally once that’s all said and done you need to save this new layout for yourself that way whenever you use unity going forward you can easily toggle to this layout. For that you just got to the layout drop down box and save layout. Give it a name you want I use Professional just to help me remember it’s a standard.

Hi there! I am currently on the path to learn how to become a unity developer and will be documenting my journey as best as I can here. Thanks for looking!
